AlexRenew will be procuring a professional services contract to support the design of a new thermal drying facility and associated solids process upgrades at our advanced wastewater treatment plant. The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, demolition and reconstruction of an existing building, basement gallery expansion, a new thermal drying system, dewatering centrifuges, sludge screening, centrate management, and electrical upgrades. The design and construction will be coordinated with upgrades to our existing solids processing systems, which are currently under construction.

The thermal drying system is part of AlexRenew’s Biosolids Diversification Project to upgrade and build resilience into our solids processing facilities. The thermal drying facility will support the project’s goals to reduce solids volume, diversify end-use options, and minimize regulatory risk; while adapting to future solids management scenarios.

The Professional Engineering Services for Biosolids Diversification Project’s Thermal Drying Facility Request for Proposals (RFP) will be released on July 28, 2026. An Information Session and Site Tour will occur on August 4, 2026 at 10:00AM at AlexRenew (1800 Limerick Street, Alexandria, VA 22314).
