Article Intro Text
On Saturday, October 18, AlexRenew celebrated the opening of the Pendleton Promenade in Alexandria with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Members of the public gathered alongside local government officials and AlexRenew staff to learn about the promenade and the diversion facility beneath it.

The Pendleton Promenade is a community waterfront space with panoramic views of the Potomac River. Beneath the promenade, a diversion facility will capture combined sewage that previously entered the Potomac River through Alexandria's legacy sewer system at the end of Pendleton Street. The diversion facility will direct flows to AlexRenew for treatment when it begins operations next year.

The Pendleton Promenade is part of RiverRenew, the largest infrastructure initiative in the history of Alexandria. Once operational in 2026, RiverRenew will prevent over 120 million gallons of combined sewage from entering our waterways each year.
