At approximately 10:15 p.m. on July 9, 2026, AlexRenew was made aware of a sewer overflow occurring on Commonwealth Avenue. AlexRenew quickly determined that the interceptor was blocked and activated pumps to redirect flows to a neighboring pumping station by 11 p.m. Crews then worked throughout the night to caution off and clean up the impacted area.
After a thorough investigation, it was determined that a foreign object obstructed the pipe, which caused the blockage that resulted in the localized overflow.
Normal flow has now been restored for the interceptor, and you will continue to see crews remediate the area in the coming days. AlexRenew staff will reach out to any impacted customers — we appreciate your patience and cooperation.
