About RiverRenew
RiverRenew is the largest infrastructure project in Alexandria’s history and will prevent millions of gallons of combined sewage from polluting the Potomac River, Hunting Creek, and Hooffs Run each year. This initiative is managed by AlexRenew and includes the now completed 2.2-mile Waterfront Tunnel and Hooffs Run Interceptor as well as a 12-story underground pumping station that is anticipated to meet silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification requirements when construction is complete in 2026. Once operational, RiverRenew will create safer, cleaner, healthier waterways for the community, wildlife, and deliver lasting environmental benefits for the community.
