Interceptor Inspections
AlexRenew's interceptors are the highways of the sewer system, carrying sanitary sewage to our wastewater plant for treatment. The pipes range between 1.5 and 6 feet in diameter.
Why is AlexRenew inspecting the interceptors?
Most of AlexRenew’s interceptors have been in service since the 1950s. To ensure that these pipes remain in good condition, AlexRenew conducts inspections regularly. This is a best industry practice that gives AlexRenew the data we need to assess current pipe conditions and manage long-term planning to extend the life of these important assets.
What to expect:
- Inspections will take place on weekdays between June and September, during normal business hours
- Crews will use specialized robotic equipment to collect video, sonar, and lidar data
- Inspections will be performed along the interceptor routes shown on the map below
- Inspections can be completed from existing manholes, causing minimal disruption to the community
- There may be minor traffic and pedestrian impacts in certain areas along interceptor routes
- Inspection crews will be in RedZone vehicles, similar to the photo below.
