The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Names AlexRenew’s Hearther Kerr Utility Employee of the Year

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce recognized AlexRenew’s Technical Trainer, Heather Kerr, as the 2025 Utility Employee of the Year, as part of the Community Champions Honors program that spotlights individual excellence across 10 industries in Alexandria. Kerr is recognized for developing a new, structured training approach for wastewater operators that combines hands-on experience with technical instruction to prepare them for the challenges of the future.

Kerr joined AlexRenew as a full-time wastewater operator in September 2023 and immediately became an invaluable member of the team, making contributions that have had far-reaching, positive impacts across the organization. She began implementing the Operational Training Program after being promoted to Technical Trainer in August 2024. 

The Operational Training Program was designed to develop new skills, transfer institutional knowledge, and support long-term workforce growth while fostering organizational resilience and reducing employee turnover. Since the program's inception, AlexRenew has seen a 25 percent increase in the promotion rate of operators and improved operational performance.

Kerr’s leadership has helped the Operational Training Program become a key component of AlexRenew’s workforce development strategy, supporting the growth of a highly skilled and motivated team of wastewater professionals. Her passion for AlexRenew’s mission has helped the organization prepare its workforce for the challenges of the future. 

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce will present its Community Champions Honors program in a ceremony on Thursday, May 22, 2025, 8:00 am at Belle Haven Country Club.
