At AlexRenew, we work tirelessly to support a healthy and thriving community, regardless of the situation. Just like many of you, we’ve been closely monitoring the outbreak of the respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus, COVID 19.

We want you to know that our top priorities during this time are maintaining the continuity of our services and protecting the health of the staff who do this important work. Here are the steps we’ve taken...

Alexandria, Va., March 28, 2019 – Alexandria Renew Enterprises (AlexRenew) is proposing rate increases for the next two fiscal years, starting July 1, 2019 and July 1, 2020, respectively, to help fund its RiverRenew program and to cover normal costs associated with the operation of AlexRenew’s existing facilities. The average residential customer will see an increase of approximately $55 per year in their bills (a total of $110 over two years), or just under $5 per month for an average homeowner each year.

This time two years ago, Hazel, AlexRenew’s Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), was working tirelessly 150 feet below ground. At this point Hazel had completed 70% of Alexandria’s Waterfront Tunnel. Accompanying Hazel was a team of dedicated TBM operators who successfully guided her 24/7 as she made her way from AlexRenew’s treatment plant to what is now the Pendleton Promenade and diversion facility.

Alexandria, VA — AlexRenew announces a significant achievement in its ongoing RiverRenew program: the Hooffs Run Interceptor, one of the project’s primary components, has already reduced combined sewer overflows (CSOs) into Hooffs Run by 90 percent.

On July 14, 2022, AlexRenew welcomed and dedicated Hazel, a 380-ton tunnel boring machine that will build toward Alexandria’s healthier waterways future. Hazel will be used to dig a network of deep tunnels and sewers that will connect to Alexandria's four combined sewer outfalls, preventing millions of gallons of combined sewage from polluting our rivers and streams each year.
