RiverRenew, Alexandria’s combined sewer overflow (CSO) project managed by AlexRenew, officially became operational on June 29, 2026. Completed in just eight years—roughly half the time typically required for projects of comparable scale—it stands as the largest infrastructure investment in Alexandria’s history. To date, the system has prevented 43 million gallons of combined sewage from polluting the Potomac River and its tributaries. In the process, the system also captured approximately 2.8 tons of trash and debris that would have otherwise ended up in the Commonwealth’s waterways. This milestone reflects both the strength of the engineering behind the project and its immediate, measurable impact on protecting regional water quality.
LEAP Bill Credits
AlexRenew offers bill credits to residential customers through its LEAP program.
AlexRenew account holders with past-due balances exceeding 60 days are eligible for credits.
Eligible customers may receive up to four credits a year, totaling $1,000.
