The City of Alexandria and Alexandria Renew Enterprises (AlexRenew) have announced that the Commonwealth of Virginia plans to provide $25 million toward the “RiverRenew” community megaproject to remediate Alexandria’s combined sewer system. The General Assembly adopted the allocation as part of the state budget amendments for Fiscal Year 2020, which will be sent to the Governor for signature next month.

The call for nominations for the 11th Annual Ellen Pickering Environmental Excellence Award is upon us!

The award is named in honor of Frances Ellen Pickering's lifelong dedication to preservation and conservation in the City of Alexandria. Mrs. Pickering was a long-time City activist who first gained recognition for her lobbying efforts more than 31 years ago that ultimately helped to create the Mount Vernon Trail between Alexandria and Washington, DC.

AlexRenew's Environmental Center recently was featured in Treatment Plant Operator Magazine as an example of how to engage and inform citizens of the role they play in their community's water cycle!

Alexandria Renew Enterprises (AlexRenew) has introduced “RiverRenew” as the name for the proposed solution to remediate the City’s combined sewer outfalls. Formerly Alexandria’s Wet Weather Program, RiverRenew is a major initiative that will prevent millions of gallons of sewage mixed with rainwater from reaching Alexandria’s waterways.

The AlexRenew Environmental Center added a second “Most Innovative Project” award to its resume following the United States Green Building Council - National Capital Region’s (USGBC-NCR’s) 2018 Community Project Awards ceremony. The Environmental Center was named the year’s most innovative project in the new construction category.

It's official! Our Board of Directors has passed a resolution officially recognizing Chesapeake Bay Awareness Week, which will run from June 2 through June 9! We'll be sharing all sorts of great Bay content, so stay tuned!

Earlier this week, the Value of Water Campaign released the results of its third annual national poll surveying Americans’ thoughts on our nation’s water system. In the findings, one message rang out loud and clear: Nearly every American (88% of respondents) thinks we need to invest in the nation's water infrastructure.

On September 15th, to raise awareness and educate our community about the value of water, AlexRenew participated in the national initiative, Imagine a Day Without Water. AlexRenew took part in several ways: on social media, through employee-submitted photos, and via a community YouTube Live event.
