Josh Lee, U.S. Marine Corps Vet, is Building New Career at Alexandria Renew Enterprises

Press Release Date:
June 2015 – ALEXANDRIA, VA

After eight years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq, Josh Young Ju Lee is building a career with Alexandria Renew Enterprises as a mechanic. Josh recently passed his Certified Maintenance Reliability Technician (CMRT) exam as part of AlexRenew’s Apprenticeship Program.

Josh is a graduate of West Potomac High School in Alexandria. After serving as a machine gunner for the Marines, he explored different civilian job opportunities before he learned about AlexRenew’s apprenticeship program. The program was developed to train workers, through classroom and hands-on experience, to develop mechanical expertise in the design and analysis of advanced wastewater mechanical systems.

Josh has been with AlexRenew for almost a year and expects to complete his apprenticeship in August. He’s completed his classroom work and is close to clocking the necessary hours on the job learning the skills needed to ensure the water recovery facility’s equipment works and is maintained properly.

“My work is part mechanics and part plumbing,” Josh said. “I spend part of the day solving problems with my team, such as unclogging lines, and the other half following through on long term projects. Currently, we’re replacing some lines. Overall, it’s satisfying work.”

Josh currently lives in Falls Church with his wife and two daughters.
